Editors Letter: ERM 2012 Nov/Dec Edition

November 18, 2012

It’s a wrap!

Yes, this issue concludes the first year of ERM’s existence as a magazine! I’m thrilled to say a lot has changed. As you can see, this issue actually looks like a real magazine. That is because it the content and images were designed and laid out by a real designer, Renee Rohwer, who joined ERM because she was keen on the mission of this periodical. I told her when I saw the designed pages come together this past month I became misty-eyed. The magazine is literally growing up and maturing before my eyes! We start this issue off with an article on Dr. Corrado Cultrera from BioGenix. In his article in Burn Rate, we covered the BioGenix Optimization System, developed specifically for optimizing athletic performance for all  types of athletes. These products work  on helping the body hydrate more efficiently through holistic supplementation that works on the cellular level in our bodies. BioGenix is also one of our new advertisers, and we take care of our own and want them to succeed through educating readers about their product line here in the magazine and online as well.

You’ll notice Mike Wardian on the cover of this issue. He’s a down-home kind of guy who really likes to run. He’s become one of the most prolific runners from the U.S. who competes on the international stage. As Mike reflects on his current pelvic injuries and his son’s epilepsy, he is determined
to win some big races next year. I know we in the community here will support him as he heals. I cannot wait to follow his racing in 2013!

ERM interviewed UK endurance triathlete, Paul Thompson, who literally jumped onto the international IRON distance stage with a fury. After winning a couple of big races like Lazarote, he has strategically positioned himself to compete well next year and in the years beyond. I want to thank writer Chelsea H. Bryan for her stellar interview with IRON-distance athlete, Charles Kemeny, who has taught us that sometimes we do not meet our goals, but that does not mean we stop. His lessons learned about nutrition at the Tampa Double IRON are vitally important, and many of you will be able to relate. Chelsea went on to cover the Lake Anna Double/Triple IRON in Virginia this fall. My only regret was my not being able to get down to the race myself this year. As usual, Race Director, Steve Kirby, managed a fantastic event with many endurance stars both competing and helping out at the race.

And speaking of race directing, Jay Danek, an ultra runner from Arizona, wrote such a great review on his blog about
race directing, I contacted him about repurposing his article for ERM. Race directing is hard work and I appreciated his view on the subject, since he’s spent time on both sides as the race director and as competitor.

Last but not least, we MUST discuss the 2012 ERM Product Guide. If there were ever a venue to get your foot in the door with very competitively-priced advertising opportunities, this is it. The Product Guide features ads from a multitude of different products and services. So support them. Go to their websites and solicit their business.

I’d like offer more product guide sections in the issues to come. Look for opportunities on the ERM website for more information.

So as we think toward 2013, know that the ERM social media online community is going to grow in leaps and bounds next year. Advertisers and subscribers are now on a unique email lists where I’ll be communicating about special opportunities, stories, and other things. So join us. Advertise or subscribe. Watch us grow and thrive.

It’s a pleasure to serve you all.

Have a safe and healthy holiday season.
