Mirinda on Bike1TRIATHLONS, THE NEW GOLF?

The Desert Mountain Club is a private golf and recreational community that is ranked among the 10 top private residential clubs in the United States. For more than two decades, Desert Mountain has offered its members one of the greatest private golf and lifestyle experiences in the world. Home to six award-winning Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf courses, Desert Mountain also provides diverse amenities that the entire family can enjoy in a stunning location in Scottsdale, Ariz. It is also the home of the Jim Flick Golf Performance Center, dedicated to one of the greatest instructors of all time and Desert Mountain’s PGA Director of Instruction from 1987-2005. The center features the most advanced technology in the industry today. Six architecturally distinct clubhouses offer nine restaurants and grills. What’s attracting athletes like Charles Adamo, an avid triathlete and golfer, is the award-winning 15-mile private hiking and biking trail system which shares frontage with national forest land.

“I enjoy golf, but being at Desert Mountain also allows me to train on the stunningly beautiful trails.” Adamo said. “This area provides over three million acres of natural park for cycling, running and swimming at Bartlett Lake, all at my doorstep.”

The sport of triathlon has exploded over the past decade. Many golfers are trading in their golf spikes for biking and running shoes.

And while some may argue that golfing differs from the triathlon in that triathletes live a certain lifestyle, golfers arguably do too. Both types of athletes enjoy and live their sport; and while triathlon requires training and competition, both sports take a lot of time and perseverance if to be good enough to enjoy them.

In fact, an article in Athletics Training Lifestyle refers to triathlon as the new golf – not because the sports are inherently similar, but because busy executives are trading in time on the golf course for time on the triathlon course. That’s where Desert Mountain comes in. As a golfing community with amenities that appeal to triathletes and other endurance racers, the area itself can be touted as a one-stop location for athletes of all kinds, with people who understand the importance of being outside in the elements no matter what you are doing.
